Four years later Dennis walked away from his successful executive role at Atari and the family made the Oakville vineyard estate their home. Their belief in the vineyards continued to grow, they were encouraged by new friends and Napa neighbors that helped them settle in. By 1985 they were rewarded with an exceptional vintage of Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, one that would go on to capture a 100-point rating from the Wine Advocate. This became a strategic turning point, as no American wine had ever received a perfect score from any wine publication. By 1990, their relentless dedication and stellar wine reviews had transformed the property into a renowned winery, firmly establishing Groth's presence on the wine map.
